They are more common in summer because that is when they are able to torture most. A few drops of sweat ignite their fire. \u00a0Anti-histamine can help a little but regular showering in fresh water helped me most. \u00a0In 2015 they abounded on the Camino between Guernika and Ribadeo. \u00a0It was a pilgrim favourite at meal time.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t expect much help from the medical services. \u00a0I visited three pharmacies and the health centre in Santo\u00f1a and not one could identify the bites which, generally are on legs, arms and trunk: the usually are in a straight line and they become huge. \u00a0If you want a spray for your luggage go to a vet: they know all about bed bugs.<\/p>\n<h1>Beaches for resting.<\/h1>\n<div id=\"attachment_5751\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5751\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5751\" src=\"http:\/\/www.the-raft-of-corks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/P1130341.jpg\" alt=\"La Arena, the Bilbao beach.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/the-raft-of-corks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/P1130341.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/the-raft-of-corks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/P1130341-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/the-raft-of-corks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/P1130341-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5751\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">La Arena, the Bilbao beach.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Beaches call out for leisurely stops if the day is warm and sunny. \u00a0Only the very disciplined pilgrim can manage to linger anywhere for an hour or so between albergues. \u00a0Sand in a rucksack is a menace and in the buttocks, too. The nearness is a mirage. \u00a0The Camino winds on and on, each new bend revealing another kilometre or so which had been hidden from view. When the exhausted pilgrim arrives in Castro Urdiales there is still another 3 kilometres to the albergue which is on the other side as you leave.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5762\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5762\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5762\" src=\"http:\/\/www.the-raft-of-corks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aP1130373.jpg\" alt=\"Castro Urdiales - still 8 km to go, but it seems nearer.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/the-raft-of-corks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aP1130373.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/the-raft-of-corks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aP1130373-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/the-raft-of-corks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/aP1130373-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Castro Urdiales &#8211; still 8 km to go, but it seems nearer.<\/p><\/div>\n<h1>The famous albergue of G\u00fcemes.<\/h1>\n<p>I&#8217;ll revert to the first person here because I am not going to be flattering about the albergue in G\u00fcemes. \u00a0This albergue is run by by Padre Ernesto. It is well run and well designed: overall very comfortable. \u00a0In the evening there is a talk, not mandatory but the pilgrims were rounded up to attend. \u00a0The talk can be found here:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alberguedeguemes.com\/historia.html\">G\u00fcemes history<\/a>. \u00a0Something seemed not quite right to me. It is as if the history of the albergue and the man behind it were intruding on the Camino of the pilgrims.
